OUR STORY

The club consists of players from all across the world, well in excess of 25 different nationalities are represented by our members. In addition to activities on the pitch the club is a huge benefit to its members socially as our network extends far beyond just the players and it is this network that has helped newcomers to Hamburg settle in, make friends, find apartments and even jobs.

From the humble beginnings of training in the Hamburg Stadtpark, the Hurricanes now have a professional management team, a dedicated manager, assistant coach and club captain, an assigned home pitch and training facilities (Oberalster V.f.W), a club referee and even an affiliated doctor and massage therapist.

The team is managed by Guillaume Hounsome who as a former youth player with French club Auxerre is as passionate about football and he is the Hurricanes! Since taking charge as manager in 2014, Guillaume has built a more professional approach to every element of the team, including pre-season fitness program, organised training sessions and vastly improved match tactics – all of which has paid real dividends on and off the pitch. As a result the Hurricanes finished second in the Hamburg Freizeitliga division 4 in his first season and the following season were crowned champions of division 3 winning every single league match to seal promotion in style! During the summer of 2016 the decision was made to enter this team into the Hamburg Kreisklasse and in turn become a fully registered Verein in Germany, this saw the club represented by two teams in 2016/17, our first team joined the Kreisklasse and our second team continued to compete in the Freizeitliga. Our first team won the Kreisklasse B3 title in their first season while our second team finished a respectable 5th in the Freizeitliga Division 2. The 2017/18 season saw our first team finish third in the Kreisklasse 4 to seal yet another promotion to the much more competitive Kreisliga 5, meanwhile our second team finished the season again in 5th place but after a league restructuring were promoted to the Freizeitliga Division 1 for the 2018/19 season.

We now operate the two senior mens teams while also offering a more relaxed "Freizeit Kickabout" for our less serious members. We believe this combination of organised league teams and relaxed kickabouts will allow us to cater for all our members footballing needs, from the committed, professional thinking, amateur to the relaxed hobby league player.

The Hurricanes is run by a democratic management board with collective responsibility for finance, administration, marketing, social events and player registration/recruitment. The board is determined to build on the current achievements in a structured manner and is already planning the next step in the clubs development.

The Hurricanes has a healthy membership of 50+ registered players with additional players joining the kickabout sessions. Members are kept informed of developments through the Club’s social media channels and here on our official website.

We are always looking for even more support to continue on our incredible journey, not only to achieve success on the field but to further develop our links to the local community and strengthen the huge social network we have created for new members moving to the Hamburg area. If you would like to get involved, either as a player, coach, administrator, sponsor or just as a social member/supporter please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via the contact page.
