Right to Learn - Sierra Leone & Liberia (2017-2018)

SC.png

Education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty. Yet millions of children in Sierra Leone and Liberia never attend school—often because their families can’t afford it.
In 2017, we joined Street Child’s campaign Right to Learn to send 100 children to school for just €35 per child per year. But the campaign didn’t stop there: it also invested in building sustainable community structures to help families support their children’s longterm education.
Why we supported it: as a club made up largely of people with migration experience, we believe that access to education can change lives—and communities.
With fundraising campaigns like “Pfand = Funds”, charity runs with Hurricanes members participating to the Hamburg marathon and half-marathon, and member donations, we surpassed our goal and raised over €3,700.
