THE HISTORY
The Hamburg Hurricanes were founded in 2013 by Scottish native Luke Webster, who teamed up with Guillaume Hounsome, a former youth player at AJ Auxerre, as the club’s first manager. What began with casual training sessions in Hamburg’s Stadtpark quickly grew into a dynamic, international football club with a strong community spirit.

2011
On 22nd October 2011 Luke Webster posted the following message on the Toytown Germany Hamburg page and the Hurricanes story began:
"I have seen lots of posts on here for people interested in playing football and wondered if anyone would be prepared to help start a new 11 aside team for next season? This would be a great way to play regular football while bringing together different cultures currently living in Hamburg. I’m certain there are enough of us "foreigners" in Hamburg who want to play football, it would be great to see a team of all nationalities enjoying football while making friends at the same time."

2014
Under Guillaume’s leadership, the team developed a more professional approach and began achieving rapid sporting success. Guillaume implemented improvements across every aspect of the team, including pre-season fitness program, organised training sessions and vastly improved match tactics – all of which paid real dividends on and off the pitch. As a result the Hurricanes finished second in the Hamburg Freizeitliga Division 4 in their first season, and the following season were crowned champions of Division 3 winning every single league match to seal promotion in style!

2016
After climbing through several divisions in the Hamburg Freizeitliga, the decision was made to enter the team into the Hamburg Kreisklasse and in turn become a fully registered Verein (Association) in Germany. This milestone fueled the club’s growth, and by the 2016/17 season, it fielded two teams: the first competing in the Kreisklasse and the second remaining in the Freizeitliga. Our first team won the Kreisklasse B3 title in their first season while our second team finished a respectable 5th in the Freizeitliga Division 2.

2017
In the 2017/18 season, our first team finished third in Kreisklasse 4, securing another promotion to the more competitive Kreisliga. Meanwhile, our second team once again finished 5th but, following a league restructuring, was promoted to Freizeitliga Division 1 for the 2018/19 season. After achieving five promotions in five years, the first team has since established itself as a solid Kreisliga contender, while the second team now competes in the Kreisklasse.

2024
We now operate two senior men’s teams, and in Summer 2024, we introduced a more relaxed Alte Herren (32 years old or older) team for our more experienced members. This combination of competitive league teams and the Alte Herren squad allows us to cater to all our members’ footballing needs—from the committed, professionally minded amateur to the veteran league player. While the club’s success on the pitch is remarkable, its deeper legacy lies in building an inclusive community—helping newcomers to Hamburg connect, integrate, and thrive through the power of football.
